CSW worked closely with management of the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth to create The Transformation Academy: Regional & Sectoral Strategies Division, a unique professional development approach that combined applied learning workshops with coaching and knowledge exchange. Delivered onsite and virtually by CSW staff, Academy sessions occurred once a week over a four-month timeframe, focusing on topics determined by DELEG management and a staff needs assessment. Topics included knowledge brokering and research, task management, and alliance (sector partnership) management. The end result for DELEG was an improved organizational capacity for learning, which increased the productivity and effectiveness of the Division to carry out its strategies. The Academy fulfilled these objectives:
- Enhanced staff capacity to support the regional and sectoral skills alliances as knowledge brokers and catalysts.
- Established a baseline of core competencies in planning, economic data application, public funding, and alliance and partnership principles.
- Enabled staff to feel confident, competent, and fully engaged in their work.
- Increased staff capacity to perform day-to-day job functions and also exhibit critical thinking and strategic management skills that took the Division’s outcomes to the next level.
