America’s manufacturing resurgence presents an opportunity for our nation’s 3.8 million unemployed youth to connect with training and careers in Precision Manufacturing. In partnership with Commonwealth Corporation, we’re calling for the creation of a Youth Manufacturing Corps program to increase labor market success for opportunity youth, by preparing them for and connecting them to high demand jobs in advanced manufacturing that require a modest amount of training and pay family sustaining wages.
Our working concept paper, Creating Pathways to Careers in Precision Machining For Opportunity Youth, explores why manufacturers are reporting a skilled worker shortage and how communities can create pathways for youth who are currently not enrolled in classes or working to take advantage of these career opportunities.
If you’d like to discuss how to create career pathways for youth in your community, please contact Katie Hall, at khall@skilledwork.org.
