CSW Proudly Supports the Release of AAI Report Showcasing Multi-Year Accomplishments

CSW has had the opportunity to partner with the National Governors Association (NGA) over many years in a variety of projects, including providing technical assistance for American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) grantees. Our CSW TA lead team Kysha Frazier and Ken Barnes partnered with NGA to support grantees in meeting their apprenticeship goals. This month, NGA released Registered Apprenticeship Reimagined: Lessons Learned from the American Apprenticeship Initiative. This work and the report funded by the Department of Labor and Siemens Foundation examines lessons learned over the past five years from AAI participants about developing high-quality apprenticeship programs that help to advance equity and economic opportunity for workers, while meeting the talent needs of employers.

To summarize the key themes and lessons learned from AAI, the report focuses on four success factors that lead to sustainable and successful registered apprenticeship programs and shares case studies of how high-performing grantees executed these success factors.
The success factors are as follows:

  • Sustainability: Successful grantee projects prioritized sustainability from inception, creating partnership and resource ecosystems that helped their programs thrive in the long term.
  • Partnerships: Successful grantees formed partnerships to incorporate a variety of perspectives and resources that can support programmatic success.
  • Simplified process: Successful grantees established simplified processes for employer partners to engage in registered apprenticeship.
  • Flexibility: Successful grantee program structures provided flexibility based on employer feedback, industry demand and apprentices’ needs.

We hope this resource will act as both a celebration of the accomplishments of the AAI grantees and a blueprint for future programs by outlining key success factors of quality and scalable programs – including those that apply in the virtual world.
