We are excited to announce that Ángel Luis Vélez is joining CSW as a Research Associate. Ángel will conduct labor market and workforce development program related research and evaluation supporting a number of our projects aimed at reducing poverty, increasing economic mobility for low-wage workers, and addressing racial disparities. Angel will also co-steer the organization’s external communication efforts.
Ángel is skilled in bridging theory and practice, is an expert facilitator, a skilled methodologist in historical analysis and qualitative research traditions, and is well-versed on cross-cultural communications and culturally responsive practices. His significant research background, postsecondary education subject matter expertise, and experience in applying a racial equity lens to his work will greatly benefit the Research and Evaluation Team and CSW overall.
Prior to joining CSW, Ángel was a Graduate Research Associate at the Office of Community College Research and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Ángel has also served as a university instructor at UIUC and Northeastern Illinois University, often teaching racial and cultural diversity and higher education policy and leadership courses.
Ángel is a Ph.D candidate in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with expected completion this summer. Ángel received a master’s in Higher Education Leadership and a bachelor’s in Justice Studies, both from Northeastern Illinois University. Ángel also earned an Associates in Applied Sciences at Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
