Fueling the Growth of High-Paying, Clean Jobs in Michigan.

On behalf of the Michigan Advanced Energy Storage Systems Initiative (AESSI), the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce is excited to share this career pathway guide to jobs and education in Michigan’s advanced energy storage system (AES) industry cluster. Using the AES Guide to Careers and Educational Programs, individuals can learn about the earning potential and applicable educational opportunities for an AES-specialized workforce all along the spectrum – from non-credit certification programs to engineering graduate degrees.

For individuals that are new to AES, the sector includes lithium-ion and lead acid batteries for use in the automotive, defense, renewable energy and electric utilities industries. New applications of AES technology are evolving every day. As home to more than 370 vehicle-related R&D and technical centers, around 90,000 engineers, and world-class engineering schools, Michigan is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of AES in North America and to build on its rich history as a leader in innovative manufacturing

The AES interactive guide is one outcome of a much larger effort by a group of 13 regional partners that are working together to grow the supply chain around AES. The collaborative is focused on diversifying existing firms and helping new businesses open their doors to meet the needs of the rapidly shifting automotive and other AES industries. To support the cluster, AESSI partners have worked to build the intellectual talents and community assets found in Southeast Michigan. They are recruiting and training engineers and technicians to help drive innovation, development, and production in this field.

CSW has helped coordinate AESSI along with NextEnergy, the Macomb-St. Clair Workforce Development Board, and the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council. The initiative was funded through a Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge (JIAC) grant, a collaborative effort led by the Economic Development Administration, the Employment and Training Administration, the Small Business Administration, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
