Corporation for a Skilled Workforce’s (CSW) Chairman Larry Good and President Jeannine LaPrad are both speakers at an upcoming conference, focused on ways to increase the opportunity for upward mobility for Michigan residents. The conference is on Tuesday, October 20th at the Grand Valley State University campus in Grand Rapids, MI. This important conference will bring policy experts and the public together to examine a number of pressing issues that are contributing to the persistent economic divide in the state.
Larry will be on a panel titled, “How Do We Increase Skills for Workers Throughout Their Careers?”. Given Larry’s long history of re-imagining work and learning, combined with those of his fellow panelists, this promises to be a lively discussion on the well-documented national skills gap, as well as on ways to incorporate lifelong learning in today’s fast-paced and ever-changing economy.
Jeannine’s panel, “How Can We Eliminate Structural Unemployment?” is an equally challenging topic, especially given the serious structural unemployment problem in Michigan’s urban centers. Jeannine brings strong subject matter expertise to the problem of the ongoing mismatch between workers and available jobs, especially in the growing sectors of renewable energy and green manufacturing.
These panels and others on deck for the half-day session will explore the findings of the Center for Michigan’s latest public engagement report, Getting to Work: The public’s agenda for career navigation, college affordability, and upward mobility in Michigan and provide an opportunity for participants to help fashion policy recommendations for the issues addressed in the report.
We hope to see you there! This conference will be held on Tuesday, October 20th from 8:45 am-12:30 pm at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids. Information about the conference, including a full list of speakers, is available here: http://thecenterformichigan.net/events/
