Alex Afranie

Senior Policy Associate

Alex is a Senior Policy Associate with CSW’s Federal, State, and Local Systems Change Team. He supports systems change and transformation within multiple levels of the workforce development sector, and generates and uses knowledge and skills to co-develop leading-edge ideas and high-impact initiatives focused on producing more just and equitable federal, state and local systems.

In his primary role, Alex is helping to lead multiple ongoing evaluations of the workforce development system in California, including an assessment of regional activities across the state and a comprehensive evaluation of the state’s one-stop career center system. Alex engages with local workforce board leaders and the California Workforce Development Board to identify promising practices and improve the system statewide.

Before coming to CSW, Alex was as a Policy Manager for Jobs for the Future (JFF) on their Federal Policy Team where he provided analysis, synthesized research, and engaged practitioners and policymakers to inform critical national education and workforce development policy priorities. Prior to joining JFF, Alex also served in Senator Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) office.

Alex received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh.
